Are you trying to do this with a read-only file system? Possibly the package's install script uses your current directory for temporary storage, and you have cded to the CD-ROM, it can't. If this is the case, 1) try it from another location, say /tmp, and 2) please report it as a bug. Oh, BTW, 2.4.18-5 is available as RPMs from Red Hat. I have sucessfully installed it on my 7.1 testbed and laptop. It seems to be working just fine.
