For dri not working, you can run 'Xconfigurator --nodri' I use this in 
my RH7.3 (XFree86-4.2.0) boxes for ATI Rage Fury Pro video cards. In 
RH7.1, I don't have to do that on these cards. If you upgrade to RH7.3 
you might see  some of these issues you are seeing now with 
XFree86-4.2.0 Check the status of your video card in the RH 
compatability list. My card is a bad card and yours could be too.

For drm, I don't know but a 'man Xconfigurator' might have something. I 
checked real quick but nothing smacked me in the back of the head. Doh!

This newer version might not have been a benefit for your equipment like 
it hasn't been for mine. I chose to do workarounds verses buying a linux 
friendly video card for 4.2.0.
