The problem with that is that, if he's reinstalling because the registry, 
and therefore Windows, has become too flakey, simply renaming/removing 
win.com will keep the crapped out registry in place.

Also, it might look for "command.com" as well, causing it to not install.

The method I posted works well, doesn't care that a version of Windows 
might already be installed, and also doesn't require the installer to look 
for the CD-ROM when it needs drivers and such that came with Windows.  
Since the contents of the CD-ROM are already on teh HD, the install 
procedure always looks there.
