Hello,

I am running ssh-2.4.0 on a Solaris system (educational site). I am
having some odd problems trying to use the ssh-3.0.0-Build 203 client
software on a Windows 2000 system to connect to the server. I can use
putty 0.51 to connect via ssh from the same client to the same server
successfully. If I use the ssh-3.0.0-Build 203 client, I can't connect.
The server will prompt me for the password three times and fail authentication
each time. The messages that I see in my log files are:

Sep 25 15:17:27 pegasus sshd2[14594]: [ID 702911 auth.warning] password
authentication failed. Connection from 132.170.32.33 denied. Authentication as
user jim was attempted.

Sep 25 15:17:31 pegasus sshd2[14594]: [ID 702911 auth.warning] password
authentication failed. Connection from 132.170.32.33 denied. Authentication as
user jim was attempted.

Sep 25 15:17:34 pegasus sshd2[14594]: [ID 702911 auth.warning] password
authentication failed. Connection from 132.170.32.33 denied. Authentication as
user jim was attempted.

Any ideas? I can get the client software to work from a different system
on a different segment, but I don't know how to resolve the case where one
ssh client works and the other one fails. We would like to recommend to
our users to use the ssh PC client (to use a nice sftp package) but it is
not reliable enough (connectionwise) in testing for us to do that.
