Viruses come in different kinds and categories to start with. Insofar as
Microsoft VB scripting that attacked the Outlook e-mail client at commencement,
this was one of the ways that was found to circumvent the generation of mail
gathered from the address book. It only stopped the flood to others and never
was intended to clean a system because it plainly can't do that.

The scenario today is comprehensive in the attack tools available, and one of
the better, if not the best, in the VB packet world availability is one written
by an Argentine.

The variety is to full to suggest that this will work for all. The question,
very general, was does this specific action work, to which the answer is yes.
What the original question - and the answer obviously - omitted was under what
conditions. :-) A general question gets a general answer.

As to your validity question, we did use it some time long ago to avoid
spreading the virus to our contacts, that is before we dropped Outlook as an e-
mailler and IE as a browser from our Windows systems.

Two quotable quotes:
By three methods we may learn wisdom: first, by reflection, which
is noblest; second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third, by
experience, which is the bitterest.
-Confucius, philosopher and teacher (c. 551-478 BC)

That government is the strongest of which every man feels himself
a part.
  -Thomas Jefferson
