What's the difference between doing something like what you described and
just runnig an ap like Snort?

|cable being used, of course. Why not just put 2 NIC's in your laptop 
|(assuming you are going to use a laptop for this ...) and act as a 
|bridge between the two hosts. You could easily then use tcpdump or 
|another utility to keep an eye on the packets. Just an idea.
