probably is (something simple) i had to have my router spoof my nic's mac address to get the connection to work, been surfin' full speed ever since

Yes, as far as the hardware end goes, I have tried resetting the cable modem, as well as powering it up and then the router; also I tried powering up the router first, then the modem; setting up all the would-be connections to the router with the modem on (and off) and then powering up the router. I think it's possibly along the lines of what Mr. Fitzpatrick suggested with the hardware addies. As mentioned, it picked up a dynamic IP immediately when connected to an internal LAN. I have a friend who works for the cable company (who's nearly impossible to get a hold of) who may be able to answer that ... maybe even clear out my cached MAC address. ;) At any rate, it's likely something simple .. that's always the way it seems to be.
