I suggest you combine both worlds and give Debian a shot .BUT.. if your a
linux newbie you may want to play with Red Hat first to get the basics down
first before moving on to a more challenging distro like Slackware. The only
reason slackware maybe a tad more secure is because they do not update the
packages as fast as Redhat/Debian/everyone else which avoids releasing
packages with vulnerabilities. I still recommend Debian because its makes
maintenence easy(most of the time).
