Similarly, my choice www.smoothwall.org

Heard good things about www.astaro.com

Both are linux-based firewall devices that convert an aging PC into a
firewall....web-based, so little / no linux knowledge is needed.

Hi Mike. I know you've stated you don't want to go for a Linux box, but
I'm
going to read more in that and guess you don't want to install and
manage a
Linux box? If you want something off the shelf and ready to go than my
advise below is off mark.

However if you have a low spec PC and don't want the hassle of a full
blown
Linux distro I'd recommend having a look at www.freesco.org . It's a
simple
as pie Linux firewall/router/ras (in/out) implementation that fits on a
floppy (I'm pretty sure the DNS component wouldn't require it to be
transferred to a HDD but you could if you wanted). It's HTTP/telnet
manageable, and if you want you can get all kinds of other bits like
proxies, ftp, mail, etc...

I love mine to bits.

Cheers,

Hi,

Somone knows a small device that has a firewall and dns
server on it and really cheap? I don't want to go for a
linux box but prefer a small device instead.

Thx.

Mike
