Yes. Do not run servers on firewalls. Just don't. Every service allowing inbound connections which runs on your firewall adds a potential security breach. > I can't buy dedied firewall... Depends. There is no such thing like a "better" Operating System. The answer to your question depends much on your knowledge. If you're familiar with RedHat, then I suggest you stick with it (though I would prefer Debian). Debian is IMHO a lot easier to cut down to a minimum of services, but it is different from RedHat. > and wich kind of steps must don't be forgiven in settings? If you don't know what a daemon does, disable it. If you don't know why a port is open, close it. Run as few services as possible. Keep them up to date. Consider alternatives (e.g. running postfix or qmail instead of sendmail).
