However, this information may be incorrect as I am using the default opensolaris method, to which I not entirely certain. Here is the output from ls -l /usr/bin/passwd. I believe according to the output that the uid root is still prevelant. -r-sr-sr-x 1 root sys 31584 2009-05-14 11:48 /usr/bin/passwd I attempted to run the process described in your last step, everything seemed to have worked except I still receive permission denied upon running passwd.
