We plan on actually moving it to /root. The ARC case was approved several years ago. The only reason it never got done was because doing so broke some internal to Sun test suites (long before opensolaris) that made assumptions about the location of root's home directory. I didn't have the time to go and fix those test suites at the time. -- Darren J Moffat
