I wrote the article for Gartner clients. The article is primarily about a
two-pronged effort in another industry to send sensitive data over the
Internet using either AS2 or the ebXML Messaging Service. The sole reference
to the WEDI/AFEHCT project is this:

A Glimmer of Hope for Standards

The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) and the
Association for Electronic Health Care Transactions (AFEHCT)
have a joint project to develop profiles of draft standards
that could become the recommended solutions for HIPAA. This
project has some participation by middleware vendors, so that
the solutions that are recommended would be likely to be
widely available. Such a standard would greatly reduce the
time required to establish and test trading partner
        relationships.

The complete Research Note is copyright material, but I can provide a
limited number of copies in PDFs to people who request them. It cannot be
republished by mailing it to a list server or posting it on a Web site.

I have been unable to find much information about the WEDI/AFEHCT effort on
any public Web site. Perhaps someone on the list can provide more specifics?

Subject: RE: Implementing HIPAA Transactions over the Internet

Good Morning Security Team;

In a recent article that a colleague shared with me of the same title
as in the Subject line above, there was a section titled: A Glimmer of
Hope for Standards.
In this paragraph, WEDI and AFEHCT were identified as having a joint
project to develop profiles of draft standards that may become solutions
for HIPAA Compliance. As you see from the signature block below, we are
very interested in learning more, participating, sharing, learning, etc.

Please share more, or provide a link where we can learn more. We are
in the trenches doing the work at this time. The timing of this couldn't
be better for everyone, vendors included.

Regards,
