Duties: This is a senior-level position focused on research in the Intrusion Detection security space. The individual will be responsible for submitting research proposals for new security technologies, and carrying out all associated research activities. These may include building of prototypes, publishing of research results, filing appropriate patents, public presentations, etc. Projects will include short, medium and long- term research efforts, all with the ultimate goal of commercializing the results to help assure Symantec's continued leadership in the Intrusion Detection security space. Requirements: Advanced degree (PhD./M.S) preferred, with 8+ years experience in commercial, government or university software research projects (commercial experience strongly preferred); proven ability to produce prototypes, patents, and/or published papers with novel new content; strong programming skills and algorithm analysis skills required; advance knowledge of software development in network security; advance knowledge of emerging technologies; fluent in object oriented programming languages; demonstrated experience in variety of Unix platforms and Microsoft Windows Operating systems; proven experience in system and kernel level programming; strong technical leadership, communication skills, ability to deal with ambiguity and advance presentation skills; ability to work independently; ability to self-monitor progress and provide ongoing status of research efforts; ability to anticipate potential customer security needs of the future.
