Duties:

This is a senior-level position focused on research in the Intrusion 
Detection security space. The individual will be responsible for 
submitting research proposals for new security technologies, and carrying 
out all associated research activities. These may include building of 
prototypes, publishing of research results, filing appropriate patents, 
public presentations, etc. Projects will include short, medium and long-
term research efforts, all with the ultimate goal of commercializing the 
results to help assure Symantec's continued leadership in the Intrusion 
Detection security space.  

Requirements:

Advanced degree (PhD./M.S) preferred, with 8+ years experience in 
commercial, government or university software research projects 
(commercial experience strongly preferred); proven ability to produce 
prototypes, patents, and/or published papers with novel new content; 
strong programming skills and algorithm analysis skills required; advance 
knowledge of software development in network security; advance knowledge 
of emerging technologies; fluent in object oriented programming languages; 
demonstrated experience in variety of Unix platforms and Microsoft Windows 
Operating systems; proven experience in system and kernel level 
programming; strong technical leadership, communication skills, ability to 
deal with ambiguity and advance presentation skills; ability to work 
independently; ability to self-monitor progress and provide ongoing status 
of research efforts; ability to anticipate potential customer security 
needs of the future. "Just Do It" Attitude a major plus.
