Description
Consultant with sound understanding of electronic mail systems, file structures, and reconstruction techniques. Strong experience and expertise in aspects of cyber forensics particularly involving the capture, reconstruction, analysis, and reporting of electronic communications streams in email messages. Expert level understanding of electronic mail technology and software architecture and file structures. Sound understanding of the forensics process with the ability to work within a framework of formal methodologies and best practices. Strong analytical and database/programming skills are needed.
Key Functions & Responsibilities
The Consultant will be responsible for:
• Working in the identification and up-front evidence collection process of electronic mail repositories and end-user mailboxes in the field and within corporate forensics lab.
• Working to de-duplicate, image, verify, analyze and transfer secure data sets from field investigations.
• Working to reconstruct medium and very large mail stores to facilitate forensic analysis.
• Working with off-the-shelf and proprietary email data collection, analysis, and reporting tools.
• Providing assistance in the implementation of the NY forensics laboratory particularly for email analysis and reporting.
• Developing and conducting keyword searches in coordination with the engagement team to identify and tag evidence in electronic discovery efforts.
• Working within the boundaries of an overall practice methodology and blueprint.
• Ongoing analysis and deployment of best practices applicable to the handling and analysis of electronic mail for computer forensics.
• Ongoing analysis of industry technology trends to incorporate proven email forensic investigation and supporting technologies into practice.
• Participation in the development of customer proposals.
• Assistance in the development of white-papers, published reports, and articles relevant to the field of email analysis and reconstruction.
Professional Qualifications
At least five (5) years of experience in the area of complex email system design and implementation. Experience in computer forensics with documented formal training. Demonstrable subject matter expertise in all of the following areas: DOS, Windows (all versions), UNIX, and large scale computing platforms (AS/400, Mainframe), Oracle, MS-SQL, MS-Access, MS-Exchange and Lotus Notes. Experience with the following toolsets is important: Encase, Paraben, Forensic Toolkit, Safeback, Visual Basic, and vendor provided utilities. Experience with XAnalys Watson a strong plus.
Industry certifications considered valuable to this position include: Certified Administrator of complex email infrastructures (Exchange, Outlook, Lotus Notes) and GIAC.
