There is another virus waring going around. I do not want to deal with
the specifics of the virus, itself, here and now. You can read about
that virus at most any technical news site. (I'll give you some URLs,
below).
I have always felt that virus warnings on discussion mailing lists do
little to serve the subscriber's interests. Those kind of posts tend
to be alarmist, even when legitimate. And often they are hoaxes that
just waste our time.
Nevertheless, I am going to use this opportunity to remind everyone to
protect themselves from computer viruses and related problems.
Everyone should have a quality virus protection program. Virus
scanning and protection programs are a necessity in today's Internet.
And you all should regularly check for updates to your virus software
program. These are often referred to as Virus Definition Files. You
should endeavor to always stay current with your Definition files.
You should never open or run an e-mail attachment unless:
(1) It is expected and known (both program and sender is known ahead of
time to you.)
AND
(2) You have scanned the file with your virus protection program.
If you receive e-mail with any attachment from a source unknown to you
or even unexpected attachments from known sources, it is best to delete
them. Tell your friends to not send you mail with attachments unless
they give you prior warning.
Okay, if anyone wants to know where to find virus programs or needs to
find the web site for their program to check on updates and information
on the latest viruses and virus protection, feel free to post up to
SeeknFind and make your inquiries.
And here is the virus du jour that is getting all the attention:
