Linux can be downloaded free of charge but not recommended for
beginners. Most beginners purchase an inexpensive distribution CD from
companies that make their own "distribution" (packaging) of the Linux
software and related utilities. These distributions often have manuals
and other helpful items to the beginner and (hopefully) make
installation of the software go a little smoother.
