Some cost money, but most seem to be for free.

Let me suggest that the first one you try is Matt Wright's "Simple 
Search".  I personally do not have experience with that particular 
script, but Matt Wright has a good reputation around the Net and his 
scripts are considered very stable and well written for most UNIX 
systems.
