Hey guys!
I'm doing a project for Sociology in which I have to create a 'poverty
budget' dealing with a family of 4. I am to "suppose that both parents
work, that one child is 7 years old and in elementary school, and that the
other is 3 and must be cared for during the day."
I have to "estimate the minimum monthly cost of each item." (groceries,
transportation, clothes etc) and multiply that by 12 to get the family's
subsistence budget. I CAN use governmental programs because this family will
only be making $15,455 which is poverty level at government standards. The
only problem is that I know NOTHING of these types of governmental programs.
So, I'm looking for info on Welfare (standards, what they provide you w/
etc) and WIC and anything else anyone can think of.
My professor urged us to be creative (I am having the grandparents babysit
the 3 yr old-stuff like that which will help cut expenses) just so long as
we are realistic. SO any info that you guys can find for me re:
governmental programs would be really appreciated AND any ideas y'all have
re: creatively cutting the budget would also be appreciated!!
Thanks!!
