TclockEx has a setting that will show a red line in the systray when the
CPU is active and this should do the trick. The author, Dale Nurden, has a

BTW it is an outstanding piece of freeware - it gives the day of the week,
date and time and also makes a calendar available. In addition, it can be
set to show CPU usage and memory usage.
