            It's not a mountain lion -- I've seen them, too, and they are 
larger, smoother, grayer, fewer markings.  This cat is stripy, stocky, grays 
and browns, about the size of a German Shepherd (our lights come on, so we 
can see it pretty clearly).  Next time I see it, I'll have to pay particular 
attention to its tail.  I just don't think it's as short as those I saw on 
about two dozen internet pictures of bobcats.  Most of the articles said the 
tail was about 6 or 8 inches long, but on a few sites, the photograph showed 
a bobcat with a fairly long tail, so maybe there are sub-species or regional 
varieties with longer tails.
