A bobcat has set off our motion-detecting lights by strolling through
our unfenced yard each night for a week. We do not live in a rural area; our
house is within 2 minutes of small shopping centers, but there are
undeveloped canyons all around. My question is this: are there varieties of
bobcat in Southern California (San Diego area, five miles from coast) which
have tails that are fairly long? This cat has a tail long enough to droop
gracefully and then curl up a bit. Most pictures of bobcats I could locate
on the internet showed them with tails no longer than about 6 or 8 inches.
This is definitely not a domestic cat, nor a cougar/mountain lion; I'm
certain it's a bobcat. Thanks for any information or resource referrals.
