Hello all, The Geophysics Group of the Physics Department of the University of Toronto has been awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. The SEG's description of this award is: "The Distinguished Achievement Award shall be given from time to time to a company, institution or other organization for a specific technical contribution or contributions that have, in the opinion of the Honours and Awards Committee and the Executive Committee, substantially advanced the science of exploration geophysics." This year, it is given to the University of Toronto. U of T has greatly influenced the geophysical world with its research, graduates and teaching. I wish to congratulate the professors, graduate students and alumni of the geophysics group for this achievement. Alumni, friends and supporters of the University of Toronto are welcome. The University of Toronto alumni has a get together at the SEG Convention most every year and this year, there is a special reason to gather around. It is a tradition at these get togethers that some of the attendees help pick up the tab for the get together.
