KEW ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Aviation Safety issues in Airborne Geophysics - Twin engine versus single engine This 30 minute talk will cover several aviation safety issues as they pertain to airborne geophysics. The target audience is intended to be those people who contract such services or write the specifications for them but who may not themselves be knowledgeable about aviation. Background information will be provided on the differences between indicated and true airspeed, the effect of altitude and temperature on aircraft performance and finally a discussion of the relative merits (from a safety perspective) of twin and single engine aircraft in this application. A question and answer session is scheduled to follow the presentation. The presenter: Malcolm Imray is the aviation manager for Sander Geophysics Ltd of Ottawa. He received the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta in 1983 and a Master of Aeronautical Engineering from Carleton University in 1986. He also holds an Airline Transport Pilot Licence with approximately 3000 hours of flying experience including several hundred hours of survey flying. Mr. Imray serves as his company's representative to the IAGSA Technical Committee, a position he has held since the association's inception.
