Dear List,
If you know of any airborne geophysical data from Ontario that might be
made available for purchase and distribution in the public-domain, please
read on.
ONTARIO'S OPERATION TREASURE HUNT:
PURCHASE OF AIRBORNE GEOPHYSICAL DATA FROM INDUSTRY
LAST CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE!!!
On March 31, 2002, the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines'
(MNDM) $29 million exploration geoscience program, Operation Treasure Hunt,
will draw to a close after a very successful three years. In 2000 and 2001,
MNDM completed two rounds of Proprietary Airborne Geophysical Data Purchases
as part of Operation Treasure Hunt. Twenty-three surveys totalling 236,000
line-km were purchased from industry, incorporating a mixture of magnetic,
time-domain EM, frequency-domain EM and VLF data. The companies that provided
data include Alcanex, Barrick, Explorers Alliance, Falconbridge, High-Sense,
Hornby Bay, Leader Mining, Navigator, Noranda, Spider and WMC. The majority
of the digital and map products resulting from the Data Purchases have been
released, and the remainder will be released in the coming months.
This note concerns the third and final Proprietary Geophysical Data Purchase.
The document describing the Request for Information/Call for Data is now
available for download from Canada's government electronic tendering service
at www.merx.bmo.com. The purpose of the document is to determine from
respondents what airborne geophysical surveys in Ontario are available from
industry. MNDM plans to use these responses to prepare purchase offers for
specific surveys. Data from anywhere in Ontario is of interest, with priority
given to the north (north of 51 N), Nipigon Plate and south of the French
River. Consult the Geophysical Atlas of Ontario for existing coverage.
If requested, Paterson, Grant & Watson Limited, in our role as the OTH
Geophysicist, will provide you with a copy of the Request for Information/Call
for Data by email, fax or mail. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any
questions. Please note the deadline for submission of responses is 2 p.m.,
February 21, 2002 in Sault Ste. Marie.
Kindest Regards,
