Hi Aline,
There has been much discussion on the mag sus aspects, but there is more to the KT20. I have used one in the field, and here are a few other comments: * The camera works for quick memory jogging photos, but isn’t good enough for keeping a record of a rock. It’s like a cheap phone camera from 5 years ago. * I did like having the GPS built in. That’s handy. * The conductivity meter really is limited to rocks that really are conductive. It reports sensitivity to 0.1 S/m, but I never got results I trusted below about 10 S/m. Each measurement on the same sample would give a wildly different value. * I had lots of trouble exporting the data to a Windows PC. I am sure they must have fixed this by now. * The user interface is complex to navigate, mainly because it has so much capability. Users need to be well trained to make sure they use the right settings. * Mine didn’t have the chargeability capability, so I can’t assess its reliability. I suspect the KT-20 might be useful for use in a simple lab where you can take time to check everything, and have the necessary equipment to prep the samples for chargeability and density measurements. But I didn’t see it as a field tool. I take more measurements with a simple SM30 mag sus meter, and trust a GDD SCIP meter more for IP-resistivity measurements. I have used KT-5, KT-9, KT-20, Magrock and the SM30. The SM30 is by far my favourite and correlates well with lab measurements. I also concur with the benefit of having a simple standard that you keep testing on. It seems silly to measure the same number on the same sample all the time, but it is invaluable when you eventually do have problems with the meter. Cheers, Nick ------------------------------------------------ Hello, Does anyone has experience with KT-20 susceptibility/conductivity/ip-resistivity meter ( http://www.terraplus.ca/products/pdf/KT-20.pdf)? Any pros and cons? I am looking for recommendations to buy a susceptibility meter, and appreciate any help. Thanks!
