Hans-Georg Meyer was a brilliant scientist and administrative leader who impacted many lives in Germany and around the world. From the first moment I met him, I liked his directness and kindness. He had an immense impact on my life and career, and those of my colleagues. A warm and courtesy and kind person - the perfect gentleman scientist. I am so fortunate to have crossed paths with this man.

In December, Hans-Georg Meyer passed away. Hans was a colleague and friend and will be missed by many. One of my favorite memories was of the time that he took to talk with my children on a family visit to Germany. He was a gifted scientist but a gentleman first.
Jose Arce has kindly put together an obituary for the Near Surface newsletter (link attached).
