I've installed SMW on my wiki to try it out, annotated the wiki a bit, and after some time decided to translate SMW to Polish. After the translation, "has type" was no longer a special property, all the attributes were gone because of namespace changes, etc. I know this seems like a very rare case, which only happens to the translators, but it is a bit more common: imagine another Polish wiki running on localized MediaWiki, with SMW extension. They annotate their articles using English names, since SMW was not translated to Polish at the time they installed it. When the wiki upgrades its SMW at some point in the future, they will be rather disappointed, since their semantics are going to be unusable after the upgrade.
