Although I'm not a new contributor, I normally only contribute bug testing
and reports. I finally made my first very simple code contribution here,
with a patch:

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38136

I hope that very simple fix for a very serious problem is included in the
1.8 release. I could not figure out why the code was written the way it was,
and I have found no problems with undoing it. Maybe whoever wrote that bit
of code can look it over and decide if for some reason it is still necessary
to keep it the way it was before I submitted my patch.
