can master sems now play also other that wav files, e.g., speex files?
it is not advisable to use encoded files on disk, as they would be transcoded (decoded and re-encoded) on reading, unless you are using precoded announcements, for which there is e.g. the precoded_announce application.

just use wav pcm l16 file format, and whatever maximum sample rate you want to use.

i tried a speex file and got

May 11 21:50:07 siika sems[3258]: [#7f24c535f700] [playFile, DSMCall.cpp:601]
ERROR: audio file '/home/jh/gong.spx' could not be opened for reading.
if you add a FILE_FORMAT definition line into the speex.c you may write that very simply to a file which does not contain any specific header. on the speex site it also talks only about the ogg container for speex.
