It is the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Battalion (ISRBN),
which is in charge of being the "eyes" and "ears" of the KFOR commander by
providing a detailed insight into the situation from every part of Kosovo and
thus protecting citizens and international forces, Balkan Security network
informs.

The unit, whose operations, composition and equipment were recently disclosed
in the "Chronicle" magazine, has ISTAR capabilities characteristic of the NATO
army, where all components of military intelligence work are united.

Since most of the tasks are performed at night, the emblem of the unit is the
owl.

The Austrian contingent, which is the command of the first reconnaissance
company within the ISRBN, is in charge of monitoring the drones, the task of
the second reconnaissance company, led by the 185th Parachute Regiment, to find
the targets of the Italian Army Special Operations Command, while for the
liaison with the local population the British Royal Launcher unit is in charge.

The Italian contingent from the 185th Regiment is said to be ready for combat
missions of special forces, but that their primary job is to turn the data they
collect on the ground into intelligence information.

The commander of the ISRBN battalion is Italian lieutenant colonel Gianpiero
Sirianni, whose biography states that he specializes in electronic warfare.

Hungarian and Croatian contingents play an important role in intelligence
operations with Skylark drones, which have a flight radius of 40 km from the
base station and a battery for 3 hours in the air.

ISRBN is supported by the Swiss contingent with SA 332 superpuma helicopters,
which are used for transport and reconnaissance from the air. Another of
ISTAR's capabilities are sniper teams.

Currently, members of the elite 6th Parachute Brigade of the Polish Army are in
charge of such a task, and they are described in the text as highly motivated
and physically ready for field tasks.

"Chronicle" also reveals that the tasks of the rapid reaction force are
currently performed by members of the Turkish contingent, who are specifically
in charge of patrols along the administrative line of Kosovo and central
Serbia, and that KFOR also has a unit for psychological operations (PSYOPS),
currently consisting of Romanian soldiers, whose task is to "win the hearts and
minds" of the local population.
