Russian Ambassador: EU’s detour for Serbia to recognize Kosovo

Russian Ambassador in Belgrade Aleksandr Botsan-Kharchenko stated that Russia
is consistently committed to Resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council, it
does not recognize Kosovo and it remains loyal to the principle of supporting
Belgrade, stating that there is no just solution to the Kosovo problem without
China and Russia.

As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Russia will only support a
solution that corresponds to Belgrade’s national interests, whether it is about
normalizing relations with Pristina or calming the current crisis, the
Ambassador told Vecernje Novosti.

Asked if certain claims were true that due to the outbreak of the
Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Moscow could still make a U-turn and recognize
Kosovo, Botsan-Kharchenko said that this is simply not true.

Speaking about the Franco-German plan to resolve the status of Kosovo, which
was supported by the entire EU, he said that he thought it was an attempt by
the West to find a detour for Serbia to recognize Kosovo and for it to enter
international institutions, primarily the UN.

When asked whether Russia would vote for the admission of Pristina to the UN if
Belgrade accepts the Franco-German plan and does not prevent Kosovo’s entry
into the UN, he replied that he does not want to talk about some things that
the leadership of Serbia, primarily President Aleksandar Vucic, rejects.
