KRIK: Vucic’s close friend involved with alleged drug trafficker Darko Popović 2–3 minutes _____ The KRIK investigative portal said on Tuesday that a close friend of the Serbian President had business links to a man involved in drug trafficiking. It said that Nikola Petrovic, a close friend of President Aleksandar Vucic and one of the most powerful people in Serbia as part of Vucic’s inner circle, had a business associatin with Dejan Stanimirovic aka Markos who was killed in 2020 in Colombia in the home the Heroes del Llano paramilitary member and alleged narco boss Jose Vicente Rivera Mendoza aka Soldado. Stanimirovic was Mendoza’s guest after being trapped in Colombia by the pandemic. According to documents that KRIK cited, the two men shot each other after hours of drinking. Both men were suspected of involvement in cocaine smuggling by the local police and EUROPOL. Petrovic said in a written reply to KRIK that he lost contact with his former business partner 16 years ago. Stanimirovic and Petrovic co-owned the Bel Mobile telecommunications company for 6 years before it was closed in 2010. “The gentleman you are talking about was a world Karate champion at the time that we had a business association. I did not know that he was, as you said, killed,” Petrovic said. The media reported Stanimirovic’s death and mentioned him in stories for months. The president’s friend also accused KRIK journalists of stalking him. KRIK said that this is not the first time that Petrovic’s links to alleged criminals was reported, recalling that he bought an airline from businessman Stanko Subotic who had dealings with convicted drug trafficker Darko Saric. The BIRN network published pictures of Petrovic hugging Zvonko Veselinovic, alleged to be the most influential Serb criminal in the north of Kosovo with links to the Belgrade-backed Serb List party.
