Brnabic: EU, US officials’ letter proof Kurti has support for undermining peace

Commenting on a letter by European and US parliamentarians calling for stronger
measures against Serbia, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said it is “welcome”
because it is “living proof” that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti enjoys full
support and encouragement for undermining peace and stability in the Balkans.

A number of European and US parliamentarians sent a joint letter to US, UK and
European officials urging for a shift in the approach towards Kosovo and
Serbia.

The letter was signed by 10 chairs of foreign affairs committees and 56
parliamentarians from various countries and members of the European Parliament,
including chair of the UK Foreign Affairs Committee Alicia Kearns and the
chairman of Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael Roth.

The signatories expressed their concerns over the current policy of the EU, US
and UK toward Serbia and Kosovo, requesting that it be reconsidered.

Serbian Prime Minster Ana Brnabic wrote on Twitter (rebranded to X) that the
letter is “more than welcome”, as it provides “living proof that Kurti does
indeed enjoy full support and encouragement for undermining peace and stability
in the Balkans, avoiding the implementation of reached agreements (both the
Brussels Agreement, by rejecting the establishment of the Association of Serb
Municipalities for over 10 years, and the Ohrid Agreement which stipulates the
implementation of the Brussels Agreement), and undermining basic human rights
of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.” She marked Kosovo with an asterisk in line
with the EU agreement.

The Prime Minister added that all anyone needs to know about democracy and rule
of law in Kosovo is that six Serbs were shot by members of the “Kosovo security
apparatus” since the beginning of this year, for which no one was held
responsible.

“A member of the Kosovo police, who shot at 11 year old boy and 21 year old
young man on Christmas Eve, has been released from custody and is now a free
man,” said Brnabic, adding that, “since the beginning of Kurti’s administration
in 2021, to date, 32 Serbs were unlawfully arrested, with some of them
imprisoned for over 20 months without any charges, in addition to enduring
torture, maltreatment, and daily insults on national basis.”

“The most striking example of the (lack of) credibility and objectivity of
those who initiated this letter is that Alicia Kearns managed to become one of
the rare individuals whose public statements had to be refuted by KFOR,” said
the Serbian Prime Minister.

When Kearns alleged that the Serbian Orthodox Church was smuggling weapons into
Kosovo, KFOR rebutted her saying that “there is no evidence regarding the
alleged smuggling carried out… in Orthodox churches by ambulances,” said the
Serbian Prime Minister.

“Despite this clear statement from KFOR, Kearns continues to parade these lies,
even within this letter. And that summarizes all anyone needs to know about the
letter itself,” said Brnabic.
