Radar: President’s friend gets preferential treatment

Radar weekly said in its latest issue that it had access to documents which
showed that a close friend of the Serbian president tested positive for alcohol
and drugs right after he caused a traffic accident in which two women were
injured.

According to the weekly, the police tested Nikola Petrovic, a close friend of
Aleksandar Vucic, right after the accident on March 6, 2023 in Belgrade’s
Dedinje neighborhood. The test showed he had cocaine and alcohol in his blood.
The two women in the other car tested negative. Petrovic was taken to Belgrade
Military Medical Academy and was tested only once there even though the law
says he had to be tested twice. A urine sample was taken to test for drugs.

The case was handed to the First Basic Prosecution in Belgrade. Ten months
later a forensics psychiatrist wrote a report which said that the level of
alcohol in his blood could not be determined correctly and that there was no
blood test for cocaine which is the only sure way to determine the presence of
that drug.

Retired University Professor and forensics expert Dr Ivanka Baralic Obradovic
told Radar that the city forensics laboratory has state of the art equipment
capable of determining exact levels of drugs. “If they wanted to be precise,
they would have taken Petrovic to that laboratory for tests,” she said.

Radar said that the case showed the rules for the privileged few since Petrovic
was not held in custody, the tests and interpretations were dubious and
whistleblower police officer Katarina Petrovic was persecuted for revealing
documents that showed Petrovic was intoxicated.

The weekly also quoted lawyer Ivan Ninic who alleged that the prosecution tried
to cover up the case and succeeded with the help of forensics experts just days
before the the deadline to file charges or drop the case.
