$35k does sound a little costly, but I am sure that there is much more
to molds than there is to custom work.

It would seem to me that the molds would have to be made out of some
type of �metal? that could withstand the high temps. of hot plastic
thousands of times and yet never fail to make one any different from the
last.

The maker of the mold would have to spend the time to cut this mold so
that it is exactly what is needed to produce it, pay for all of it's
overhead, and then still profit from the deal.

I'm sure that the cost of the mold is also based on supply/demand, and
how much the maker of the mold thinks that Nis Knacks is going to make
off the clear lenses.

I certainly wouldn't make something for someone for $5k, knowing that
they were going to make $100k off of it and not try to get my cut of the
pie. After all, it is my hard work that went into the mold, not theirs.

I could easily see why a small company would not want to make a very
large investment like this. They would have to simply sell clear corners
for the next 30 years just to break even on the mold :-(
