Not true. At least from my experience, if the alternator goes, the car
will run off of the battery until it kills that as well. Once the
battery goes bad, the car dies and it's all over. The jump-start simply
recharges the battery, in this situation, and when the charge runs down,
the same thing happens.
Again, this is what I have experienced.
