Not necessarily, it takes a while for the alternators to 'die'. Mine ran 
for a few days after I got the battery+brake light (indicating alternator 
problem, the lights went away after a short while for some reason, but they 
did come on).
If you have a DMM you could check the voltage while the car is running. It 
will be <13.4 if it is not fully charging.
