My guess is that someone has confused detonation/pre-ignition caused by lean
running conditions with detonation/pre-ignition caused by low octane fuel. I
suppose that if you just oiled the be-jesus out of your filter, enough of
the oil would get into the cylinders to cause a lowering of the octane
sufficiently strong to cause some pinging or something. Then again, I may be
slinging monkey poo.
