" If the clutch pedal is depressed, the car IS in neutral. The placement of
the stick doesn't matter until the car is put back into gear by letting off
the clutch :-) "

Well technically the car is in gear as soon as the shifter is moved in to
one of the slots on the H-pattern. Neutral is when none of the driven gears
in the gear box are directly connected to the output shaft. When the clutch
is depressed the mechanical link between the input shaft and the crankshaft
of the engine (via the clutch disc) is simply removed. Reguardless of
whether or not the gears are engaged to the output shaft.
However the fact still remains that if you are in the car depressing the
clutch to start the car, a remote car start is useless. So how does his
remote start start his car, only when the gear selector is in the neutral
area of the H-pattern? How does it know?
