I agree with Terren, I think its offensive and just as bad as any other 
racial slur.  That you lived in Japan and have japanese friends is 
meaningless.  I don't call even my good black or other minority friends any 
sort of slur out of respect.  I don't want to go there.

I find the Jap thing rather irritating, to the point where I don't reply to 
e-mails from people who use it all the time.
