Not to complain or anything, but why in the world whould you want a smaller engine in this thing?  2.5 is still small, and is only big when compared to the 1.8's and such.  I much rather consider this a bettering of the segment that the car is currently in.  If the Nissan dominates with the 2.5, then maybe Ford (I'm a focus fan too) and Honda will up the ante and make slightly bigger engines.  But you are right, this car is not in the same segment as the Civic or Focus (so let's all pray for a 200SX with the trusty SR20DE motor to return {never gonna happen}).  This may be the start of a new breed of super sedans that I wished already existed and had a large following.  The Contour SVT for example.  That was one killer car.  2.5, agressive styling, and 4 doors.  Problem was that Ford for some reason does not give SVT the proper funds to advertise such a high caliber of vehicle.  The new Jetta 1.8t.  My girlfri! end drives a Jetta, and it is a dream.  This car is pretty much bulletproof, and is cavernous on the inside.  And now, the SE-R.  These cars are great.  They were designed to have 4 doors and look sexy.  They are not 2dr with two added on.  Secondly, I'd imagine that this new 2.5 revs high but also has more torque on the bottom end than the smaller fours, and is most likely an engine that can handle the power import racers dream of making.  I for one like that Nissan is attempting to carve it's own route, and not copying Honda.  In closing, I think that if this car doesn't end up going head to head with the pocket rockets already out there, other companys will hopefully jump on the bandwagon and make these killer 4dr import racers to take on Nissan.  Competition breeds excitement.
