Hi, I have this weird problem... my speedometer needle suddenly starts
shaking up and down on the dash. Let's say I'm at 50, the needle will bounce
between 47 and 53 (or something like that). It never does this before. It
practically doesn't hurt anything, but is annoying as heck.
Any of you know what's wrong? I am guessing there may be some capacitor dead
somewhere, so it couldn't smooth out the needle. That's just my guess. But I
have no idea where to start looking at the fix, so somebody help me please.
Second, does a small ring problem affect engine performance? I'm using oil
more than normal, and the fourth cylinder looks wet with oil when looked
into with a torch. This is a telltale sign of a bad ring, right?
Third question, my timing chain is giving the "chain" noise. The mechanic I
met told me to replace the chain, is this necessary? I thought it would be
enough to tighten the chain. If I need to change the chain, I might as well
go with the ring job... so no job is done twice.
What should I do now? Should I replace the chain along with the ring? Or
should I use a new tensioner and leave the ring alone (it's not that bad...
yet). Trying to save some bucks here. Any advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks guys...
