I was just checking the GA16 head out today, both the
old style 91-94 and the new 95-99.
The 95-99 has much better intake ports and slightly
bigger intake valves. However I was very disapointed
in these heads as the ports were a very poor design,
they are unequal in length on the exhaut side on both
heads and do a mean turn while inside the head. The
bowl area of the exhuast port is very restrictive.
The intakes on the 91-94 head are small and do the
turn also. The 95-99 head has a much better intake
port, bigger and straighter.
The valves are very shrouded by the combustion chamber
wall, however the combustion chamber has a very good
shape and should resist detonation well.
The good news is that this engine should really
respond well to headwork. The bad news is that it
will need a lot of work to flow well.
We are starting work on a super stroker bottom end and
think we can get at least 1900cc from the GA bottom
end.
So we will be testing extrude honing the intake
manifold, headwork and a built bottom end in the next
few months.
