The letter "B" is the model code.
As for when the "category" changes:
MNFG DATE MODEL CODE ENGINE(S)
2/82-12/85 B11 E15S/E16S
1/86-06/90 B12 E16S/E16i/GA16i
8/90-10/94 B13 GA16DE/SR20DE
11/94-08/98 B14 GA16DE/SR20DE
Note,the above dates are manufacture dates. Also,I wasn't exactly sure what month/year
the B15 went into production,so I left that out.
