Does SCCM have a position on IM abx? I know for septic shock access is
paramount but since the bundles cover severe sepsis as well, it seems like
there would be times when IM abx might be used first. I don't think they count
for CMS at present, but should they? We had this situation come up this week
where IM abx were given for sepsis in the MD office before sending them to
admit, and the pharmacy dosed further abx based on the documented time instead
of within 3 hr. Will be a fallout for cultures not done before abx, but should
the abx count? I can think of other (rare) situations where this could happen.
