I’m the Sepsis Coordinator for Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA, we
have 440 beds. I’m full time and it’s about 90% of my role (I also cover
inpatient flu vaccine screening which is obviously a seasonal role). We have a
RN data abstractor who does the SEP-1 abstraction but we work together to
disseminate the data on our dashboards, etc. In addition the traditional
Sepsis Coordinator tasks I’m also the lead planner for the UW Medicine Sepsis
Conference each spring.

I started a “Sepsis Coordinator” group on LinkedIn to further our networking.
Feel free to add yourself to the group if you use LinkedIn:

Katie,
I am the Sepsis Coordinator at Navicent Health. We are a 630 bed facility,
Level 1 Trauma Center, Level 3 NNICU, we have 5 adult ICUs and a Pediatric ICU.
I have been in this position since April and August 1st it became my full time
job. There are a lot of moving parts and multiple changes that need to
continuously be made. The position requires a lot of administrative backing to
succeed, which luckily I do have.
We also have a Sepsis Team that meets every other week to discuss all issues
related to the care of septic patients. The team consists of over 40 members
consisting of: managers, directors, administration, quality, lab, pharmacy,
nursing leaders, respiratory, coding, utilization review, MD champions,
discharge planners, NPs, information services analysts, EC, ICU, and Med surge
leaders as well as bedside nurses.
I will confirm it is definitely at least enough work for one person no matter
what size the facility is.
Good luck! ☺

I would like to know how many of you have a dedicated sepsis coordinator vs. a
dual role and how many beds your facility is.

This seems just in our small facility enough work for one person!

If anyone is willing to share a job description I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!
