Good Afternoon, Our sepsis abstractor is using a CSF lactate as sign of organ dysfunction for one of our cases. Q Net verified that this is acceptable. I always thought that it should be serum lactate, though I can't find anything in the guidelines specifying any source. Has this happened with anyone else? Are you using CSF lactate for abstracting the sepsis measure? Our hospital reference says normal CSF lactate is 1.1 - 2.4 mmol/L, so that doesn't match up with serum normal level (0.4 - 2.0 mmol/L). I can't see why we would use them interchangeably for treating sepsis.
