Since you didn't mention how either the mysql or mysql2 configurations are 
setup, it's hard to guess what the problem might be.   You may have to put 
together a reproducible example.  You could try using the :encoding => 
'utf8' option when creating the Sequel::Database object if you are not 
already doing that.
