Thousands in Serbia March Against NATO and the West
* By The Associated Press BELGRADE, Serbia - Mar 27, 2016, 11:28 AM ET Thousands have marched against NATO and the West in Serbia <http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/serbia.htm> , carrying banners praising Russian President Vladimir Putin <http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/world/vladimir-putin.htm> . The march Sunday marked the 17th anniversary of NATO's 78-day intervention in Serbia against its bloody crackdown against Kosovo Albanian separatists in 1999. The crowds affiliated with far-right groups carried pro-Russian banners and shouted against Serbia joining the EU or the Western military alliance. Current Serbian leaders, once staunchly anti-Western, have said they want to join the EU, but to remain militarily neutral. Pro-Russian forces in Serbia have been gaining ground ahead of the April 24 general election that could decide which way Serbia is heading, toward Russia <http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/russia.htm> or the EU. Serbia has traditional ties with its Slavic ally Russia which has stepped up a propaganda campaign ahead of the vote. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "serbia" group.
